Magical Worlds of Gale Franey

gale_fran11.jpg

Forest Nymph

Gale Franey is a digital artist living in Vancouver, Canada. Shes been creating these visually stunning fairytale works since 2001. Her inspiration behind each piece comes from working extensively with refugees and homeless people. It is from those immensely rich experiences that have shaped her ideas and influenced the art and design, which ranges from fantasy to social complex issues.

Danielle’s Dragon

I’ve been working on this image for the past 4 days. It has taken me more than 50 hours in total, longer than most because I had to build the dragon piece by piece using digital images of iguana, monitor lizard, crocodile, and even some giraffe fur samples for the dappled effect on the wings. The fox is also comprised of many different pieces. I built several different backgrounds and foregrounds until I was finally satisfied with this one. I love building backgrounds and this one is made of at least 40 or more images.

Daniela Uhlig: Comic Pop Art & More

funfair.jpg

Funfair

What intrigues me most about Daniela Uhlig’s work is the expressive figures and animals done in a wide range of styles and techniques. She’s mostly into painting with traditional paint and brush, but recently (out of necessity) started creating digital artworks. Her online galleries both here and here, consists of mostly comic pop art, but you’ll also find a vast array of deliciously flavored imagery ranging from Art nouveau to full pin-ups of eroticism. Most, if not all pieces, are beautifully drawn and masterfully designed to encompass great sensuality, macabre humor and some rather fascinating “freakish” concepts that are illustrated perfectly. Note: Some of Daniela’s artwork could be considered NSFW, so it’s recommended only for a mature audience. View more after the jump.

B-9: Ida Belogi’s Vector Art

A hawk and a hacksaw, 2007

Palace, 2005

Pictorial, obsessive, sexy, playful, erotic and provocative are perhaps the best keywords that describe Ida Belogi’s portfolio-B-9. Rome-born Belogi, comes from a traditional background of fine arts (oil painting, sculpture, etc.), though shes emerged as a supremely gifted illustrator with outstanding technical mastery. Her drawings represent (mostly) young females in erotic, sexy, sensuous and amusing poses, often coupled with subtle ironic twists. She works predominantly with vector images, but she doesn’t leave her connection with traditional techniques behind. For It is through these traditional approaches she’s able to explore and challenge conventional use of the softwares with beautifully fresh paradigms. (NSFW) Examples follow the jump. more…

Maren Esdar’s Uniquely Stylized Illustrations

images6.jpg

m0.jpg

Am sure you’ll agree, the photograph has long been the medium of fashion, but contemporary illustration is transforming how the industry is presented, big time! It’s therefore no surprise that the new generation of illustrators are making ampful use of digital media and techniques, with rich confluence of styles and results. One such “bleeding-edge” illustrator is Maren Esdar from Hamburg, German. Although his online presence is very sparse, this presention shows some incredibly lush, dynamic and surrealistic imagery. In this showcase, Esdar draws on historical references, particularly from the Baroque period.
