Beb Deum’s Portfolio

Ukiyo.jpg

Ukiyo

The portfolio of commercial illustrator Bertrand Demay aka Beb Deum is both captivating and an inspiration on many different levels. Born and living in France, Beb-Deum is noted as being one of the masters of digital design and numerical drawing. His fabulous works are influenced by the Italian data base and Japanese culture, thus offering an interesting and complete mix of subject matter: something between retro-futuristic surrealism, techno-psychedelic and a kind of euro-manga. All these flavors combine into a very distinctive style; a style marked by subtle shades of (mostly) vibrant/bold colorings, and an excellent use of light and composition.

Nowadays, Beb-Deum works feature for advertising campaigns, but occasionally he will illustrate for both press and certain comics too. See a convenient list of his work here, or visit his portfolio here. You can also see some of my personal favorites after the jump. more…

toddschorr.jpg

THE SPECTRE OF CARTOON APPEAL - ACRYLIC ON CANVAS 60″ x 84″, 2000

Todd Schorr is an American pop surrealist painter. His work has a highly detailed, conjuring a seemly endless array of the most amazing cartoon inspired imagery, corporate mascots and other pop culture icons. His work has been collected in two books: Secret Mystic Rites (Last Gasp, 1998) and Dreamland (Last Gasp, 2004).

Beginning his artistic journey as an acclaimed illustrator over twenty years ago, Schorr created artwork for every top ad agency as well as numerous covers for time magazine and a collaboration with Bette Midler that yielded the national best selling book “The Saga of Baby Devine.” Not satisfied with the increasing creative restrictions of illustration, Todd turned his attention from ad agency halls to art gallery walls - this giving him a reputation as one of the finest American surrealist painters working today. You can view a collection of Schorr’s latest paintings after the jump. more…

The E-pocalypse

E_pocalypse

Spam is ruining the email experience. Lumping together unsolicited advertisements, porn come-ons, viruses, worms, scams and “phishing” (attempts to con you into giving out personal data) under the catch-phrase spam, this torrent of junk now accounts for a sizeable majority of all messages received in email, an otherwise very handy form of communication.

Noteworthy: My own email is well over 95 percent spam lately, some days over 99 percent. This cartoon mentions some of the specific blurbs and come-ons.
