The Paintings of Amy Crehore

A Deja Vu Waltz
Am loving the work of Amy Crehore, a sweet, talented pop surrealist painter/illustrator from Pennsylvania, NJ, and VA equally. She now resides in Eugene, Oregon where she paints some of the most brightly colorful dream like scapes. At first glance, Amy’s artwork might appear similar in style to illustrations from the pages of children’s books. Though, reading further into her finely tuned imagery, you’ll find an array of promiscuous (yet sensuous) dualities between naked women and curious animals (mostly CHEEKY monkeys). Noticeably, vintage musical instruments feature highly in Amy’s work, revealing and contributing to the pop surreal narratives that are both playful, poetic and utterly absorbing.

The Banana Eater
Amy’s contribution to the arts world cannot go unnoticed. Her newest series paintings, “Little Pierrot”, “Monkey Love”, “Blues Gal” and “Lolita” series, have gained her an international following. Not only have her oil paintings been exhibited in galleries and museums from coast to coast, but have also been commissioned by America’s top publishers: Magazines such as The Atlantic Monthly, Business Week, ESPN Magazine, Esquire, Forbes, GQ, The Los Angeles Times, MS., The New York Times, Outside, Playboy, Redbook, Texas Monthly, Rolling Stone magazine and anthology book “ROLLING STONE that features Crehore’s image of Jewel and Alanis Morissette is included in the anthology.
Worth checking out is Amy Crehore’s work on her website, along with Tickler Ukulele t-shirts, limited edition prints - including exclusive pressure printing’s framed giclee of the artists “Banana Eater” painting - due out the end of this week! Additionally, Amy’s work is currently on view at the Deep Pop show (closes feb 21st,2008) and the Ad Hoc Art Gallery NYC (opening July 25, 2008). Oh, don’t forget to stop by her blog too!
