The Guro Art of Trevor Brown (NSFW)

trev_brown_front1.jpg

RubberDuck & Hitomikanehara

Am celebrating my last post of 2007 with the daring Guro art of English artist Trevor Brown. What is Guro? I thought you might ask, well, for those who might not be in the know, Guro is a type of visual art which combines the macabre with erotica. The Guro movement originated in Japan and can be found in art, cinema, and music. It’s definitely not for the faint hearted, or closed minded for that matter, and because of this it is steeped in controversy. Mr Brown is often compared with Mark Ryden in that he is known for child-like characters in various states of distress. However themes in his work extend to car crashes, (reminiscent of J.G. Ballard’s Crash), abattoirs, and Japanese pornography.

Warning: Viewing Trevor Brown’s work requires an open mind. You can enjoy more of his Erotic, fetish, disturbing, graphic, provoking, nearly offensive, sometimes perverted but extremely fascinating art of Trevor Brown after the jump.

Break The Night With Colour

Today am going back home to the UK. To celebrate this, I’m sharing one of my favorite singer/ song writer: Richard Ashcroft with you. The video is Break The Night With Colour. It’s a a beautiful song - well written, fantastically song and full of soul. In many ways, it just about sums up the end of the road here in the Unites States. No, i’ve not been in prison, but sometimes life can imprison. Am sure many of you have felt this way along your life’s journey. If you have, feel the music and enjoy…..

Jeff Jordan’s Art

Holiday.jpg

Holiday

It is fair to say (North-coast,US) artist Jeff Jordan is one of the pioneers of “lowbrow aesthetics”, with his unique and peculiar imaginary and otherworldly realm. As you may know, in the past few years “Lowbrow Aesthetics” has become a sizzling “new” art movement and is all the rage among hip young urban artists and a new breed of art collectors. In fact, most of the content you view daily on paintalicious is based around much of this lowbrow genre that has its roots in the pop culture of the 1960s: including comic books, B-movies, Pop Art, California Funk, rock `n’ roll, psychedelia, graffiti, tattoos, surf art and so on.

Jordan sees his art as “totally classical,” and mythologically oriented. This is combined with his unique style and concepts of which operate on a lot of different levels.

So, “tell us about these paintings, Jeff……” more…

Wang Niandong’s Paintings

wn_6.jpg

Butterfly - Oil on Canvas. 59 x 44″, Mandarin Fine Art Gallery

“I want to express meanings in my paintings, but I am not a philosopher. I am an artist. I merely paint what touches and moves me and put in my understanding of life. And hope to get people to look at life a little differently” - Wang Niandong

Recent issues of Time Magazine, The New York Times and The Wall Street Journal have all been touting the talent and investment potential of these Chinese artists. Well, an artist known as Wang Niandong is right at the bleeding edge of Contemporary Chinese Art. His stunning paintings capture the urbanization and westernization that are currently taking place in China. Most (if not all his paintings) portray model type women in very interesting poses; often conveying either happiness or sorrow. Niandong always paints these with a complete “realist” eye for detail, coloration and composition. Moreover, with each delicate depiction Wang purposely gives new direction to the aesthetic female image.

Bio: Born in Sichuan, China in 1978, Wang learned to paint as a child. He attended the Central Academy of Fine Art in Beijing, and was awarded his master’s degree from Sichuan Fine Art Institute, Oil Painting Department. Wang is currently an Associate Professor in Sichuan Fine Art Institute, Chongqing, China. Frequently described as young, talented, and incredibly handsome, Wang’s works display his fascination with unattainable women…

Janet Skiles - “Quasi-Realism” With Depictions of Nature

js_1.jpg

An artist is always speaking to the child in each of us, to our sense of open wonder and creativity. I hope my art will make you smile, laugh, and warm your heart in some way. ~ Janet Skiles

Janet Skiles is a nature-loving freelance illustrator who lives in Illinois. She paints very intricately detailed illustrations that exhibit a strong passion for nature - in all its wondrous forms. This grows from an idealistic view of the world. She considers her art ‘quasi-realism with a whimsical depiction of natural scenes’. Her works are created using traditional watercolor and airbrush. Recently, however, she began working digitally, discovering the infinite possibilities of using Photoshop to enhance existing illustrations or to create new ones.

Janet Skiles clients include: National Geographic, National Wildlife, and The Smithsonian Gift Catalogue, as well as other gift catalogues and nature stores. Her illustrations also appear in journals, note cards and stationary, needlework, decorative flags, holiday themed decorations, puppets, and more. Check out more of her beautiful nature works after the jump.
