The sandbox builderier - acrylic on canvas, 60 x 73 cm

I did my first painting of my life a year before going to college, where I began studying graphics. My instructors always tried to get me to paint in the more contemporary abstract style, and move away from my fascination with realism. I saw this as an attempt to stifle my own creative style and steadfastly refused to fall in line. Eventually, my teachers relented. Jacek Yerka

Award winning Polish artist Jacek Yerka has become synonymous with a surreal style of Fantasy art, gaining his remarkable visions from dreams and the capricious landscapes of his pastoral-like existence. His paintings are something of a cross between Vladimir Kush’s ‘Metaphorical Realism’ and Jim Warren’s whimsical ‘Magical realism’. We can also add some of the great surrealists and Flemish masters such as Hieronymus Bosch, Pieter Brueghel and Jan van Eyck into the mix. These artists styles and techniques (to some degree) influenced Yerka’s unique vision of “realism” and gave him a solid platform on which to convey reality through surreal compositions and meticulous brushstrokes.

Observing his paintings, you’ll will be drawn into the strong surreal elements, otherworldly qualities and some of the strangest oddities that form Yerka’s fantastic visions…Visit Yerkaland

@Shani - It’s a possibility. Yerka’s paintings have already inspired tons of filmakers and sci fi writers. Am quiet sure the game industry would love to transpose his visions.

@Eirewolf - Absolutely. Do you have a favorite?

I love this stuff, surrealist artists are fantastic aren’t they? They break rules, images like this give me hope. They allow the imagination to expand and the soul to soar. This may be my favourite kind of artistic expression. I will buy a book of Yerka images for my classroom asap. thank you!
