lr1.jpg

Bubble Girl Vector

Starting from a very expressive and compelling portrait photograph, Latvia born Liva Rutmane creates surreal type imagery using a variety of photo-manipulation techniques in either Photoshop, Illustrator, Painter, Dreamweaver, Cinema4D. Her portfolio is quite extensive; it shows a broad range of styles and techniques fashioned and enriched digitally. Some, like the pictured Bubble girl, have a very painterly quality, while others have a much more polished look to their design.

Lunch Box Front - Miso Pretty

It’s a strong Asian influence that shapes the aesthetic of this (Brighton-based) illustrator/painter Fiona Hewitt. She combines kitschy iconography of Chinese art and pop culture, with whimsical and cute fairy tale elements of her Scottish heritage. This is done in a very graphic way, and fantastically brought to life by an interesting mix of drawing skills and digital mediums. Her palette is always rich and colorful - inspired by a range of toys, communist-era propaganda, the Fifties, the Forties, sweets and packaging. Delicious! See more of Fiona’s Asian flavored paintings here.

Oh, it’s my birthday today, any ideas what master of western painting shares my birth date? Hint: Supper at Emmaus

Japi Honoo: (Surreal) Liquid Pixels

Sometimes I wonder where my images come from. When I am working on a digital image, I am completely absorbed by it. I laugh, I feel, I cry, I dream, I lose myself in it, I become it. It is this moment, this sensation of being one with my image, this is the passion rollercoaster that I live for. - Japi Honoo

If you haven’t yet visited Liquid Pixels, your missing out on an outstanding portfolio by Japi Honoo, a self taught digital artist, residing in Venice, Italy. Her portfolio consists of stunning imagery inspired by oriental culture and surrealism, and made by combining her expertise in digital image manipulation and photography. Using this sort of creative epiphany, Honoo’s visions, dreams and emotions are brought dramatically to life with a unique artistic view point. Her dreamy images are utterly absorbing, touching, distinct, moving, even frighteningly disturbing at times. Reading these images is outright fascinating, they somehow find a way to entrance the observer into unconscious depths, sometimes uncontrollably so. Still, your interpretations will differ, as you capture some incredible imaginative visions of an outstandingly strong, intimate and genuinely gifted artist. Thierry Le Gouès’ Soul Series

tlg1.jpg

“Iman walks over to the set…It’s a spooky vision. She looks like an Egyptian sculpture come to life. Le Goues doesn’t say much, neither does anyone else. What is there to do but shut up and stare?” –Veronica Webb

Both beautiful and evocative, French fashion photographer Thierry Le Goues’ SOUL is a visionary collection of nudes and portraits by some of today’s most well known and admired models of African descent, in the most ecstatic and irreverent poses. His photography in this series is strong, simple, powerful, contrasting b&w design and a sophisticated presentation. The photographs alone don’t show much “in your face” movement, yet most (if not all) images possess a forceful and dynamic quality. more…

Antoine Helbert’s Masterly Paintings

ah17.jpg

Vinyle Copie

Antoine Helbert is a master painter, sculptor and illustrator from Strasbourg, France. His styles of graphic, fashion, history, and advertising are very different, but equally outstanding. This makes Helbert’s online presentation an absolute must see! It’s perhaps one of the most interesting and innovating portfolios I’ve seen in along time. Not only can you see the range of his styles, but also his incredible passion and exploration of the Byzantine civilization. His masterly paintings follow a pictorial tradition of the middle ages, while exploring the mysteries of hybrid and fatal creatures with utter charm and COMPLETE sophistication. I’m loving his work. more…
