Soa Lee: 3-D Artist Extraordinaire

bg16.jpg

Europa, 3ds max, Photoshop, April 2006

The woman is Europa, a main actress of the myth for Taurus. I thought she should have an audacious, modern and warm glitter in her eyes, as she was a princess. So, I referenced the image of Scalett Johansson, but it didn’t resemble her after many additions of images that I desired (looking younger, bold etc.) The gem of Taurus in May is emerald and the flower of the month is romantic rose. As I think she likes the nature, I put a flower coronet on her head. There is the bull-shaped brooch on her chest. - Soa Lee.

3-D modeling or 3-D CGI Illustration has become somewhat sophisticated in recent years, but still often plagued from an unnaturalness and artificiality except in the hands of South Korean Soa Lee and a few other adept 3-D artists. Soa’s lustrous career started from being a traditional cell animator, to being one of the most highly-prized 3D artist of our time. It isn’t hard to figure out why. Her female characters and fantasy-themed images appear fluid, dreamy, sublime, picturesque and have a naturalism, or a “classical painting” quality that isn’t often present in 3-D renderings. Soa’s finessed command of rendering more…

Lori Earley’s Paintings

ley2_1.jpg

Audrey (Close-up), Oil on Board 24 x 36

Lori Earley (born in Rye, New York) is a pop surrealist painter specializing in stunning surreal portraits of esoteric women. Earley’s oil paintings have a unique eerie style; she interestingly combines classical realistic rendering with her innate desire to create the world she feels that’s often inspired by the imagination of high-end fashion icons such as Alexander McQueen or the exotic wardrobes of Jennifer Nicholson. Earley’s central focus of expression in her portraits are the large exaggerated eyes. These are dramatic illuminations in paintings riddled with desire, implicit emotion, and very mysterious atmospheres. more…

Colin Christian’s 3-D Pop Surrealism

snackcaketop.jpg

Moist As A Snack Cake

This fiberglass and silicone sculpture is just under 7 feet tall. This was my first real attempt at silicone. I wanted to achieve a true cartoon realism, not hyper real. The silicone is soft to the touch in contrast to the hard fiber glass. Also the combination of flat and gloss finishes is something that I will continue to do from now on… - Colin Christian

Pop surrealist Colin Christian creates fantastic, larger than life pin-up girl sculptures. These are made out of fiberglass and silicone and they’re typically around seven feet tall. Silcone by the way, is a very difficult material to use but one that helps Colin achieve his goal of true cartoon realism, a line drawing made flesh. more…

Terry Rodgers’ Paintings

harmonicdissonance.jpg

Harmonic Dissonance, 2006, 66″ x 84″, oil on linen

“These paintings look at our extraordinary isolation in a world seemingly crowded with significance, meaning, relationship, and purported intimacy. The figures in my paintings are not present to the world immediately surrounding them. They can’t interpret what’s directly in front of their eyes,” Rodgers says. “We’re all stranded in our very own solo spaces.”

Note: Terry’s art contains adult material that is not suitable for children and is NSFW

There is no greater painter of social reportage than American realist painter Terry Rodgers, who has emerged as one of the most gifted figurative painters of our time. This is not soley due to his incredible painting techniques and intricate compositions, but also his immense ability to evoke the viewer to participate in a disillusioned world where money, sex and beauty is not all it’s cracked up to be. more…
