Wilfrid Wood’s Toy Art

wilfridwood.jpeg

Check out these one of a kind toy sculptures by UK-based artist Wilfrid Wood. After leaving the TV program Spitting Image, Wilfrid has been making these small creations (4 to 12 inches) for the last 6 years. His creative process starts with a pencil drawing. After constructing a wire armature, Wilfred uses a polymer clay to form the shapes. However, if making edition sets, a mould is used - which is then poured either Jesmonite, plaster or resin. Despite their basic forms and shapes, all figures show distinct details and expressions. This makes them appear more realistic as compared to the usual toys-rus, clinically-cool toys which we have be subject to for years.

Many of these unique and somewhat interestingly bizarre characters are made in editions of 10. The price ranges from 100£ to 600£ (which is about $184 to $1,100).

The Illustrative Work of Will Murai

mp3life.jpg

Will Murai is an illustrator / graphic designer from Brazil. He creates some really wonderful digital paintings, from comic strips to t-shirt designs. The image above is called, Mpeg Layer Three. It was obviously inspired by the new generation of ipod users, with many modern elements. Murai’s sketches, concepts, studies and textures are created in the traditional way, using papers, canvas, pencils, charcoal, watercolor, etc. Only the painting and coloration process is achieved with the use of Computer and tablet. In this example, Coral Painter and Illustrator were the software of choice, used to accomplish the final painterly and sublime result. You’ll find [20] more of Will’s fantastic work after the jump. more…

6 Billion Others, A Project By Yann Arthus-Bertrand

6million

6 billion Others, is a fantastic project by renowned French photographer Yann Arthus-Bertrand. The project itself, created at the beginning of 2003, aims to create a sensitive and human portrait of the inhabitants of the planet: 6000 interviews, 65 countries visited, 4500 hours of interviews filmed, 450 hours of video portraits translated and subtitled available for everybody. The project asks questions about universal values: what is happiness, what is the meaning of life? It aims to show how different, but also how similar the human race is, regardless of continents, borders, language, skin color, or gender.

In 2008 you will be able to listen to the thousands of testimonies which have been collected, and add your own testimony to the site. In the meantime, take a look at the project, the team, and some interviews that have already been made. Click on the image to visit the project page.

Limited Edition Threadless Screen Prints

threadless.jpg

Threadless is a community-centered online t-shirt store run by skinnyCorp of Chicago, Illinois since 2000. Both professional illustrators and amateurs alike may participate by submitting t-shirt designs online, which are then put to a public vote. A small percentage of submissions are selected to be printed and sold through the online store. It’s highly recommended if you are looking for something outlandish, one-of-a-kind or typically odd.

There are virtually no limits to the variety of designs seen at Threadless. Designs range from political and personal opinions to abstract or surrealistic. Some designs seem to take on an afterlife, due to a popularity vote. For example, Threadless Tshirt designer ‘Glennz’ is now releasing limited edition screen prints of his designs. Each print is personally signed, numbered and embossed with seal of authenticity.
